Palestine Events in Sri Lanka

Muhammed Ziadh – Sri Lanka

Arrays of activities organized in Sri Lanka in Conjunction with Commemorating International Day of Solidarity with Palestine

Sri Lanka is well known for its support to the Palestinian people. The people of Sri Lanka always support to the Palestinians regardless of their religion or race. I would like to point out that Israel could not establish official diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka for decades. The current president of Sri Lanka, Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, is a very strong supporter of Palestinians’ struggle. In order to honour his courageous moral support, a street in west bank is named by his name. Moreover he has promised to World Muslim Congress Chief Dr. Omar Abdullah Bin Nasif that a mission of Sri Lanka will be soon opened in Palestine.

It is not only the president but also the people of the Island are more concerned on the Palestinians’ issues. According to my knowledge, there were two such events organized by two civil organizations to mark the International Day of Solidarity with Palestine. One was organized by Anti – Imperialist People's Alliance (AIPA) and the other one was by Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine (SLCSP).

AIPA organized a public meeting on the theme of Build Resistance to The Global Imperialist – Terrorist War Led by the USA in Conjunction with Commemorating International Day of Solidarity with Palestine.

Mean while SLCPA, which is co chaired by Minister Athauda Seneviratne and former Media Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar, organized a public lecture on "Annapolis Middle East talks - a US-Israeli conspiracy to provoke Palestinian civil war”. The guest speaker veteran journalist Latheef Farook who is also the author of the popular book "War on Terrorism -The Untold Truths" spoke on the topic. His speech could be downloaded from here .
